A Thin Black Line (Say Her Name):

Fifteen (15) 5” x 7” panels. Each panel is mounted on a wood block of three different depths (3/4”, 1 ½” and 2 ¼”). Each panel has a unique heart made from chips of graffiti (layers of spray paint) from Krog Street Tunnel. On the back of each panel is a list of 49 names and ages of women of color who were killed by police or while in their custody.

Krog Tunnel runs under train tracks in the first Atlanta neighborhoods settled by emancipated slaves (Cabbagetown and Reynoldstown). Gentrification there is all but irreversible. The tunnel remains a central location for graffiti which ranges from social commentary, angst, love, fear, joy, social messaging, and contempt.

All of that is captured in the layers of graffiti and preserved in resin. Email jac@jacpainter.com for information
