SOLD Love Breaks the Bonds That Kill Us

$1,850.00

Mixed Media: Tinted resin, chips of graffiti, chain

24” x 48”

The concept for this sat in my head and heart for about 5 months. It was so strong for me it actually blocked other pieces. So, I furiously created it with energy and passion.

I found this huge chip of graffiti after Labor Day weekend 2018 when someone (or people) stripped huge swaths of the tunnel and laid the chips out over the rails and threw them along the ground. It felt like vandalism to me. It felt disrespectful.

I carved the “paper dolls” by hand. Not your typical paper-dolls, these intentionally refer to stereotypical African Americans silhouettes. The hearts that I carved from between the women (they are women) we cut in half and then resined together to create three dimensional butterflies that are lifting the women from their human bonds (symbolized by the length of chain).
